Belarus’ Bobruisk twins with Italy’s Iglesias

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Bobruisk has twinned with Italy’s Iglesias, BelTA learned from Belarus’ Honorary Consulate in Cagliari, Italy.

The official signing of the agreement on twinning relations took place in Iglesias City Hall during the visit of the Bobruisk City Hall delegation to the city. Iglesias Mayor Emilio Gariazzo and Bobruisk Major Alexander Studnev signed the document in the Medieval Hall of the Municipal Council. The agreement also received full support from the government of the autonomous region of Sardinia, which is the most active Italian region in cooperation with the Republic of Belarus.

Bobruisk’s new sister city is located in the south-west of Sardinia. With the 30,000 population, it is the tenth largest city on the island. While in Italy, the Belarusian delegation met with representatives of institutions and cultural associations of Iglesias with a view to developing contacts and establishing a possible exchange of creative teams. The sides agreed that one of the creative teams of Bobruisk will be invited to give a series of concerts on the island on 5-8 January 2018.

The Belarusian representatives held an important meeting with leading businessmen of Iglesias who showed great interest in cooperation with Bobruisk and with Belarus in general. Alexander Studnev suggested that before the end of the year a delegation of Sardinian entrepreneurs from Iglesias, together with the mayor of the city, will visit Bobruisk to get familiar with the economic potential of the city and explore possible ways of cooperation in the economic sector.

The guests were also welcomed at the residence of the President of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, and met with the Director General of the Association of Italian Municipalities ANCI - SARDEGNA - a branch in Sardinia. On the occasion of the visit, the representative of the municipalities of Sardinia invited the mayor of Bobruisk to launch close cooperation so that other Belarusian and Sardinian cities could sign new partnership agreements.

The Honorary Consulate of Belarus in Cagliari took note that as part of the 2017 – the Year of the Belarusian Culture in Sardinia events, the twinning agreement was signed with Bobruisk, the 2017 Belarus’ Capital of Culture.
