Harvest season kicks off in Belarus

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – The harvest season has started in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 16 July, an estimated 124,600 hectares planted with cereals and leguminous crops were harvested, which is 5.9% of the sown area. This year’s harvest season arrived in Belarus earlier than in the previous year.

Brest Oblast is currently leading having cropped 20.9% (68,700 hectares) of its planted areas. Grodno Oblast harvested 7.5% of the areas (24,300 hectares), Gomel Oblast – 7.34% (23,700 hectares), Minsk Oblast – 1.6% (7,780 hectares). Mogilev Oblast has just launched its harvesting campaign cropping 0.01% of the planted areas (0.040 hectares). Vitebsk Oblast, where grain is still ripening, will start cropping its planted areas later.

A total of 333,200 tonnes of grain has been cropped with the average yield of 26.8 centners per hectare.
