Pankration competitions in Bobruisk to gather best athletes from 30 countries
MOGILEV, 24 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Bobruisk will host the World Pankration Championships on 1-4 November, BelTA has learned.
The tournament at Bobruisk Arena will gather representatives of 30 countries, including Australia and Qatar. The competitions will feature about 70 medal events among men and women in different age and weight categories. The competition program is divided into four groups: full contact, athlima, or light contact, polydamas and palesmata.
This year every team will be allowed to field three athletes in each weight category, which means Bobruisk will welcome more than 300 best pankration wrestlers.
The competitions are organized by the international federation United World Wrestling and the Belarusian Pankration and Mixed Martial Arts Federation in cooperation with the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee and the Bobruisk City Hall.
Pankration is a revived Greek sport. Wrestlers may use virtually any tactic from other martial arts. Special protective gear and strict rules make this sport safe and spectacular.
