Lukashenko: Regional development should be a throughline of the next five-year period

16.11.2024

The regional development should be a throughline of the upcoming five-year period, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a ceremony to honor agricultural workers at the Dazhynki harvest festival in the town of Klimovichi, Mogilev Oblast, on 16 November, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, the number one task today is to prevent the outflow of economically active population from the regions. This means that people should be provided with well-paying jobs.

“This can be done through the opening of new enterprises and improvement of living conditions. So that people’s motivation and qualifications grow along with their salaries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “The theme of regional development should be a throughline of the upcoming five-year period.

At the same time, he warned that social parasitism would never be tolerated in the country: “Everyone should work and provide for themselves and their families. We will help everyone by providing jobs. You all need to work.”

“Local authorities should create a maximally favorable regime for all responsible investors. If a person wants to invest in production, support him, determine where you need this investment and direct it to the necessary area. Help the investor set up production where people can work,” the president said. “We all have these measures but they are scattered across different documents. They need to be united, updated, and turned into a priority national project.”

According to the head of state, the Belarus President Administration has already been instructed to deal with these issues. “We will bring our legislation to an ideal state, so that people do not need to search for the information they need in various sources. This is a great deal of work for our specialists and scientists, and it is well underway. We are to finish it next year,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“The theme of regional development should be a throughline of the upcoming five-year period,” the Belarusian leader said. “The main focus will be on the regions, districts, and oblasts. We should prevent the center of the country, Minsk and its suburbs from overpopulation. People should settle down evenly throughout the country.”
