Belarusian healthcare minister: Coronavirus is not going anywhere

The coronavirus will not go away. It will become a classical seasonal virus that Belarusians always have to deal with in spring and autumn. Belarusian Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel STV, BelTA has learned.

The official believes that the coronavirus will become a classical seasonal virus in the future and it is necessary to be ready for it. It is also necessary to follow the previously chosen tactic, he noted. According to Dmitry Pinevich, Belarus has not made drastic steps, which were popular in other countries, and has not suffered considerable economic losses because of it.

Dmitry Pinevich said: “Thank god, our pockets are not empty. You can see it. Economic growth confirms it among other things. It is the first thing. But it doesn't mean that we will have to endure the next wave, and the next one, and the wave after that one. Yes, some epidemiologists say that the more contagious strain is the last one but I'd like you to note that even major specialists didn't plan for more than two months in the last two years. In any case I believe that the coronavirus will not fade away but will become a classical seasonal virus that we always have to deal with in autumn and spring.”

The healthcare minister also made some comments about coronavirus bonuses for Belarusian medics. He noted changes might be made.

“The bonuses were authorized by the president for those, who work directly with the coronavirus, who work in conditions of particularly dangerous infections. The head of state's instruction was rather clear and explicit in favor of giving these bonuses to raise salaries for healthcare workers,” the healthcare minister added.
