SCO representative opines on role of regional organizations in building fair world
Regionalization is replacing globalization in addressing a number of issues, thus regional organizations need to play a bigger role in building a fair economic and political world order, SCO Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev said, BelTA has learned.“The theme of the conference is aligned with the SCO philosophy, goals and objectives. The organization seeks to counter terrorism and separatism, but today we have to admit that despite all the achievements of mankind, the number and scale of threats are not decreasing. It is clear now that regionalization is replacing globalization in addressing a number of issues, thus regional and transregional organizations are coming to play a bigger role,” he noted.
In his opinion, a more prominent role of these organizations will help set the stage for a fair economic and political world order.
“At the Astana summit, the heads of the SCO member states approved the initiative on world unity for a fair world, harmony and development. The association actively interacts with partner organizations, with the UN, CIS, CSTO, the Eurasian Economic Union, ASEAN and others. In the Astana Declaration, the SCO member states emphasized that interaction within the organization can help build a new architecture, equal and legitimate security in Eurasia. All countries of the large SCO family are united by the desire to live in peace, to enjoy indivisible security, taking into account cultural and civilizational differences,” noted Nurlan Yermekbayev.
He emphasized that Eurasia has a powerful potential for continental co-development, based on the value of the peoples living there.
“Today our continent is becoming one of the centers of a multipolar world,” he added.
